Life has been so busy lately, I’ve been lagging behind on blog posts! So I figured I’d take a moment to send out a little update on all the fun happenings going on for me.

In mid-May I closed a five week run of an incredible, but also emotionally taxing, show with Theatre Vertigo. It was an ensemble piece and I had the joy of sharing the stage with 5 of the most incredibly talented women. The work was particularly challenging because I played all male characters and it led me down an interesting exploration of what men go through emotionally. I found it fascinating how heavy, and eventually painful, it became to shove my feelings and emotions down, and only present a “tough” exterior. I hope for all our sakes that society transitions in a way that allows men to become more open and emotionally vulnerable because the feelings I started feeling were definitely not healthy and made me feel very disconnected.

In late May I had the pleasure of starring in a Feature role for an upcoming project for Facebook TV. I’ll be able to share all the exciting details once the project is officially announced but it was a great experience and the cast and crew were just wonderful to work with.

Last week I got the exciting news that the short film that my young son and I filmed last October was released and it turned out so beautifully! The film is titled Hatched and was directed by the brilliant Rachel Annette Helson. It can be viewed here: https://filmshortage.com/dailyshortpicks/hatched/

This time of year is also jam-packed with theater auditions! I attended the PATAs which are the Portland Area Theatre Alliance’s general auditions where you get to perform in front of a large group of local theaters, agents and casting folks. From that audition I’ve already received three callbacks, two of which were for major theaters that I assumed were still way out of my reach. Just being invited into those rooms has been an honor and that validation has filled my motivation tank to the brim!

My voiceover work is still going strong and I’m starting to see an uptick in the quality and amount of jobs I am booking. I completed my professional corporate demo in May and am preparing to shop it around so that I can move my career to the next level. I’m right on track for the amount of time I’ve been at this so I am so excited to see how things progress. The VO world can be kind of a Wild West in terms of how to go about finding jobs so I’ve been diligently gathering information from anywhere I can (ie., coaches, podcasts, social media groups, articles, etc.) It’s a hustle game, but I love it.

So! All of that, on top of taking a weekly on-camera class with the amazing Alissa Jessup, keeping up on the auditions my agent sends me on, seeing as many theatre shows as I can, OH!, AND being a Mama of two growing kiddos, has kept me busier than ever, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. I took a lot of huge risks to get to this place and I’m so elated to see they were worth it!
